SolarMount adjustable tilt legs are used to set solar arrays to a more optimal angle. Legs are sold individually with fasteners. The amount and length of the legs needed per row is different depending on whether the row is installed in low profile (horizontal) or high profile (vertical). Please see the information below for details on low or high profile array tilt leg selection and quantity.
High Profile Arrays:
In high profile arrays, tilt angle depends on leg and rail lengths. For rails 48 to 106 inches long, use a single leg per rail. Order 2 legs per row. For rails 120 to 180 inches long, use two legs per rail. Order 4 legs per row. Unirac does not recommend using tilt legs on high profile arrays longer than 180". Never use splice bars on high profile arrays of any length.
Rail length (inches)
Leg kit model number
High profile arrays longer than 106" will require 2 legs per rail. The distribution of those legs along the rail can be seen in the diagram to the right. The length of each leg is determined by the required tilt angle and the length of the rail to each leg.
Some math is required in order to determine the length of the two legs needed. Tilt leg length is estimated to be 2.1" for every 12" of rail length at 10 degrees tilt. Adjusting the above formula will give a fair estimate of tilt leg length for your installation.
If rail length = 8 feet and desired tilt angle = 10 degrees, then the tilt leg length is 8 x (2.1") = 16.8" (estimated). Where 8 is the number of feet of rail measured to the connection point of the leg, 2.1 is the tilt leg length per foot of rail.
If you want a 20 degree tilt angle, then multiply the above result by 2. If you want a 30 degree tilt angle, then multiply the above result by 3, and so on.
Low Profile Arrays:
The number of tilt legs required in a low profile array depends on the length of the mounting rails. See sizing chart below for complete listing. In low profile arrays, tilt angles depend on the leg length and module length.
